Finite element methods for transient convection-diffusion equations with small diffusion

Transient convection-diffusion or convection-diffusion-reaction equations, with in general small or anisotropic
diffusion, are considered. A specific exponential fitting scheme, resulting from finite element approximation,
is applied to obtain a stable monotone method for these equations. Error estimates are discussed for this method
and a comparison to the more commonly known SUPG method is drawn. Numerical results are also presented for both methods.
