Research

The focus of the insitute lies in the field of numerical mathematics, including the following topics:

There are close ties between the NuMa and the group "Computational Methods for PDEs" at RICAM, a research institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences located in Linz at the JKU campus. The NuMa participated in the special research program Numerical and Symbolic Scientific Computing, as well as the successional doctoral program Computational Mathematics, both of were founded with the goal in mind to strengthen the cooperation between numerical analysis and symbolic computing. The national research network Geometry and Simulation was dedicated to research in the field of isogeometric analysis, which aims to bring together geometric modelling and numerical simulation. The special research program Computational Electric Machine Laboratory faces the challenges of modelling, simulation and optimisation in multiscale and multiphysical systems modelling electric machines.

Besides the abovementioned research consortia, the members of the institute are active in aquiring research grants for scientific projects.
