The lecture will first review the basics of finite element discretisation to partial differential equations. Several FEM strategies, such as Continuous/Discontinuous Galerkin and Streamline Diffusion FEM will be introduced. After this, global and goal-oriented error estimation will be presented. The goal oriented estimation will be done by using the adjoint method. The importance of the adjoint consistency will be explained together with an adjoint consistency analysis for the stabilized FEM. Finally, some moving mesh approach will conclude the presentation.
