An Inverse problem with a scalar elliptic partial differential equation with a priori known material interfaces will be introduced. In the given setup a proof of existence of the solution in a continuous case will be shown, where it is well understandable which properties play an important role. Three different numerical examples of inverse problems will be given. The first example is for a parabolic state problem, the second one for a hydro-mechanical model and the third one is the Poisson's equation model in two dimensions.
